Electronics maker P4Q plans ABQ facility

Electronics maker P4Q plans ABQ facility

Spanish electronics manufacturer P4Q said Thursday it plans to locate its North American headquarters in Albuquerque, and hire 15 people in its first year.

The company said it plans a public grand opening event in October.

P4Q makes solar tracking controllers. The Albuquerque facility will support that business with an assembly line that will make products for P4Q and its clients, the company said in a news release.

The company’s Suntrack device, which is mounted to panels, points solar panels at the sun, allowing them to capture more energy. Its second product, Light Track, controls streetlamps to save energy. The company also makes a train control module and works with the automotive industry, where its clients include Volvo, Mercedes and Ducati.

“Besides its existing workforce in electronics, we have chosen Albuquerque for its positive business environment, access to transportation, bilingual population and competitive costs for rent and utilities,” said Michael Orshan, executive director of P4Q USA, in the release. “We expect to thrive and grow in Albuquerque as the market continues to expand for solar, energy conservation and trains.”

Orshan could not immediately be reached for comment.

Bob Walton, vice president of business development at Albuquerque Economic Development, said Thursday that AED worked to recruit the company to Albuquerque for a couple of years.

“This is their expansion into the U.S. It’s not big, but it’s a neat existing company,” Walton said. “They’re more than one dimension and they’re right in our sweet spot, which is a mixture of solar and assembly.”

The company has applied for Job Training Incentive Program funds for 15 employees. Its headquarters will be in the north I-25 corridor.
